Here is Sunday’s keynote from SLCC by Tom Hale, outlining a bunch of new features coming to Second Life. Some cool new stuff: new viewer with simplified user interface that actually works like most other applications, closer integration with the web site (OpenSim is far ahead on this with their Elgg integration), and mesh import, which realXtend has also already integrated. It will be interesting to see how the implementations differ!

I’m still really bummed I could attend this year. SLCC is always quite the party! Bring is back east next year… or, at the least, do it in Vegas like everyone wanted!

Registration for the 2009 Second Life Community Convention is now open. You can register here.

I’ve got to say, I’m impressed – prices are down significantly, which will hopefully make it easier for people to come in this economy. From the SLCC web site:

If you want to pay $135.00, you need to be one of the first 200 people to buy a ticket.

If you think $150.00 is a good price, be sure to register/pay by April 30th.

How about $175.00? Register/pay between May 1st and July 31st.

OK, so if you joined the party late, that’s completely OK! You’re welcome to register/pay $200.00 between August 1st and August 13th.

And for those that like to live on the edge and/or enjoy the spontaneity of life, we offer you admission for $225.00 at the door!

Second Life Concurrency Breaks 80,000

Second Life

The virtual world Second Life has broken 80,000 simultaneous avatars logged in. For someone who remembers when a concurrency of 50 was special, and a major event was held to try to break 5,000, this is impressive. What is most impressive about it is that it is being taken for granted these days.

I guess once 100,000 is hit, it’ll be a big deal again!
