YouTube... for you... in SL!
I am frequently asked how to show videos that are stored on YouTube in Second Life. Second Life does not offer support for Flash video (which YouTube uses), however, there is a small and easy hack which will allow you to stream a video uploaded to YouTube in Second Life in a Quicktime compatible format.
First, find the video you want to stream into Second Life on YouTube. It will have a URL that is something like this:
That URL won’t stream in Second Life. However, with a few minor changes, this stream will play in Second Life:
http://www.youtubemp4.com/video/P2CMaRSHz9E.mp4
It is that easy! I hope this helps anyone trying to find an easy solution for sharing video within Second Life.
I was just trying to figure out how to do this. Thanks! You saved me a lot of time.
This is the easiest way to get it done. Just beware that the youtubemp4.com site is separate from YouTube, and just a pass through. Still, it has always worked for me, and is a lot easier than grabbing tokens yourself from YouTube’s site!
worked great … thanks (was way easier then the old way i did this).
how do you get it to show just the video instead of the whole page?
If you use the method described above, it should show just the video. It is a pure mp4 stream. However, a lot of this is un-necessary with the release of Viewer 2.
Doesn’t work.
Good afternoon; take a look at the date on the article. This feature has been replaced by the new shared media feature in the new Viewer 2 of Second Life:

They did a lot of work to improve the way that media can be used and shared in the virtual world, so hacks like these aren’t really necessary anymore.
