Happy Second Birthday, OpenSim!

Happy Second Birthday!

Happy Second Birthday!

Today is the second birthday of OpenSimulator, a project near and dear to my heart. I’ve watched the project evolve over the previous two years, and ever offered my two cents here and there in its development.

For those who are unfamiliar, OpenSim is a application server for hosting 3-D virtual worlds, similar to Second Life, release under a BSD license. It derives many of its features from Second Life: 256 square meter regions, avatar creation, and the first client it supported was the Second Life client. While still very much in alpha, the product has come a long way over the past two years in stability and adoption.

There are quite a few events and activities happening to celebrate this occasion; you can find more about them here.
