Wow, how different was 2003? Still, you can see the start of something wonderful. This is me and some n00b named Aimee Weber with butterfly wings.
Five years ago, I read an article on Slashdot about how a company called Linden Lab was allowing content creators to retain intellectual property rights to their creations. This was November 14th, 2003 (okay, I missed it by a few days!). My good friends Maxx Monde and Kex Godel joined on the same date. Being a virtual worlds enthusiast going back to my college days, I decided to check it out for the free, one-week trial.
Obviously, I got a little bit involved. Since then, things like SLBoutique, the Second Life Community Convention, Live Help, and Gogomodo Trivia have become quite popular on the grid. Who would have guessed it? The purple theme, of course, continues.
Thanks to everyone – friends, Lindens, Residents – for making it such a fun five years. My life has truly been enriched.
